Wimbledon Quarter

Dear Wimbledon Community

Today at 1010hrs, a large explosion was heard from the Wimbledon Quarter Underground Car Park. This will understandably have caused concern, as would the subsequent presence of emergency service first responders, the associated scene cordons and evacuations.

At this stage all evidence points to no criminal involvement. There were no fatalities. One person was injured. They are not in a life threatening or life changing condition, but remain in hospital for precautionary observations. 

We are grateful to the London Fire Brigade, London Borough of Merton and Wimbledon Quarter Business Community for their swift attendance and support in keeping our communities safe. We have notified the Health and Safety Executive, who will lead the investigation hereafter. 

A small section of the car park may remain closed off whilst HSE and Wimbledon Quarter Building Owners complete next steps.

We wish the individual involved a speedy recovery and hope this information offers our communities clarity and reassurance.
